"From Graduate to Professional" September 2025 Seminar
Dear workshop attendee,
Thank you for attending our recent seminar on making the transition from graduate to professional. We aimed to provide practical advice for students and recent graduates looking to begin their careers.
During the session, we briefly covered a range of topics to help you navigate the professional world. Here is a short summary of the key points we discussed:
- Understanding the Workforce: We explored the difference between the formal and informal work sectors and how your degree positions you for a career in the formal economy.
- Using Your Time Wisely: Your "free time" is a valuable asset. We emphasised using it with self-discipline to invest in your skills, knowledge, and future.
- Meeting Professional Expectations: The workplace operates on different standards than university. Punctuality, diligence, and taking full ownership of your career path are fundamental.
- Fitting the Company Culture: We talked about the importance of researching a company's culture. Aligning with their "language," from dress code to communication, helps you integrate into the team.
- Building a Strategic CV: Your resume is a marketing document, not just a list. It must tell a clear story about your achievements and the results you have delivered.
- Embracing Lifelong Learning: Your education does not stop after graduation. A commitment to continuous learning is essential to stay relevant and adapt throughout your career.
- Showing Your Resilience: Completing a degree is a testament to your perseverance. We highlighted how overcoming challenges demonstrates a strength of character that employers value.
- Pursuing Wisdom, Not Just Data: We discussed the journey from raw data to information, knowledge, and finally, wisdom—the ability to apply what you know to make sound judgements.
We hope you found the seminar useful. Your feedback is important as we plan future events. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts by filling out our survey:
